Hi: Mendoker's Bakery, I moved in the area three years ago and needed a cake for a baby shower I was hosting for my sister and decided to try your bakery. I was impressed with how organized and sanitary you guys are (ticket number machine and a cashier who does not handle any food) as soon as I walked through the door. I purchased a whipped cream frosted sheet cake. Needless to say the cake was so fresh and tasted so good. Everyone at the shower wanted to know where I purchased the cake from. I moved to NJ. about ten years ago, when I got married, ever since I always bought a Cake to celebrate my wife's birthday, her first year as a married woman I got a Cake in a bakery (don't even remember the name) the next year someone told me about Mendokers', and I decided to try it until this day I don't regret the decision, anyway that is not the whole story. Ever since that first time, all that were invited to be with us for her birthday, and the majority from New York, got hooked to the good taste and freshness of your Cake, that every time they have a special occasion to celebrate, they call me to order a Cake for them, and as soon I walk in the door with the cake everyone goes, "The Cake Man Is Here". My family and myself have made "Mendoker's Bakery" our only bakery for around 20 years. I ordered all our birthday cakes from your bakery (we are a family of 8) and in between birthdays we enjoyed many of your other cakes. This past year I was involved in a very serious accident when my car was struck broadside by a drunk driver. My daughter, Diane Gentzler, was paralyzed in this accident. She has been in the hospital and at Kessler Rehabilitation Institute since the accident last March. We just recently brought Diane home. When asked what we could do to make her happy - her reply was, "I missed everyone's birthday...I want Cake." Since I am still recovering from some of my own injuries, I took the easy way out and picked up a store-bought cake. After dinner I took a piece of the cake and a glass of milk in to her. She looked at the cake, then looked at me and asked, "Is it a Mendoker's cake?" I said no, then she pushed it away and said, "I don't care if I haven't had any cake in 9 months - if it's not Mendoker's, I don't want it." I'm sorry for rambling on. I just thought you might like to hear about your very devoted customer and friend. I am an old Polak who was brought up on good Babkas. I am so tired going to a bakery in Sayreville, and getting a stale Babka, when you complain you are told that Babka's stay fresh for 3-4 days. This is so wrong, it stinks. All your bakery goods are fresh every day, you can take pride in that all your goods are of the best Quality - Taste - and Appearance. (I live in the area.) They couldn't get over the selection of fine cakes and breads - and your deli section too - and with mouths watering they threw all caution to the wind and ordered some buns and danish pastries which we all enjoyed and finished up in no time at all. I though I'd just drop you this line to let you know how much these out-of-state visitors were impressed with your bakery and I am sure that now the name "Mendokers" will be known in the Virginia Beach area as well.
